My dad (bearded codger in the black cap) has a somewhat unusual toy. He co-owns it with his mate, the other guy in the picture and they have some laughs with this thing. All my life there have been machines like this in our shed and in our lives. For work and for play. We grew up around them and many of my childhood memories revolve around the dichotomy between my mum wanting pretty (clean) daughters in frilly dresses and fun loving dad wanting my sister and I to hang with him and learn about steam and oil and boilers and pressure and coal and such things. Dad almost always won. Fun times. Who knows what it’s called?
Traction engine. Love them. Haven't been one one in literally decades. My old man is a freak for engines.
ReplyDeleteYea, that is a traction engine. And, yea that is definitely a "boy toy". I love the titles you come up with Cheers!!!
ReplyDeleteI feel a bit duped by the title. I hear the phrase "Boy Toy" and I think of something entirely different!
ReplyDeleteStill, that looks like it would have been a fun ride!
@Bob - Haha, yea I get it. I recalled Shawn Michael's entrance music in WWE which implies "something entirely different". Hehe.
ReplyDeleteMy Great Aunt & Uncle owned a farm, so when I was a child it was tractors we played on. It's now a Shopping Centre by the way.
ReplyDeleteOh this is awesome!
ReplyDeleteRight first time Moko. His other big hobby is a steam tug (www.daldy.com) that a group of them have restored over the last 20 years and now regularly parade around the Waitemata harbour chewing through fossil fuel like there's no tomorrow :-)
ReplyDeleteWe used to see things like this at farm auctions, years ago! Cool.
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome looking machine. It looks like a very early tractor.
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty tough and very cool! Alas, I'm not very mechanical, another of my failings. I'm a city-boy, if I can't push a button or flip a switch, then God didn't intend that it should work.
