Resilience

What this power is I cannot say; all I know is that it exists and it becomes available only when a man is in that state of mind in which he knows exactly what he wants and is fully determined not to quit until he finds it. Alexander Graham Bell

Tough day

It started with a blinding migraine and steadily went downhill from there. Stressful.

But it’s Friday tomorrow and I have a great weekend planned.

An old friend is arriving home tomorrow from the UK after a long time away and we’re off to have a catch up for the weekend along with another of our closest friends. We’ve very bravely loaned a small bach (pronounced ‘batch’, which is what we in northern NZ call a small basic holiday home, Cats Peeusually at a beach) on Waiheke Island in the Hauraki gulf. I say bravely because this place is really rustic and it’s getting freakin’ cold here now. There’s plenty of firewood though and lots of blankets and so it’ll be great.

There’s fishing gear there too apparently so I might cast a line if the opportunity presents itself. I’m always up for surf casting.

We’ll pick up food and wine in Auckland before we get on the ferry as everything costs more on the island. We’ll jump on a commuter ferry tomorrow night and then a quick taxi ride should deposit us at the front door by 7.30pm. It’s right on the beach.

I can already taste that first fruity chilled sauv blanc mmmmmm oh wait; that’ll be the one I’m drinking now. I bet tomorrow’s one will be just as good.

Have a great weekend everyone. Be safe on the road.

Widget

What do we all think of the change to the followers widget ? A bit ego driven perhaps?

  1. I have removed the gadget and it feels very freeing. The followers thing played right into my competitive streak!

And I have seen quite original, funny writers become obsessed with their follower numbers, rendering them court jesters playing to the crowd. I don't expect they will have longevity.

I am also baffled by the numbers of some people's followers (bloggers who have PINK blogs Lou! and they write tripe).

I started blogging as a way to be creative, and as an extension of my journal, plus I enjoy the connections to like minded people.

The followers thing makes me feel a little hollow. Aaaaaaand that's all I have to say about that :)

  3. I dislike Widget. Who cares how many 'fans' they have? Apparently some do, I guess.

Your weekend sounds so fun. Good friends, good vacation...enjoy! Hugs.

  4. Lou - I'm so jealous. Your weekend sounds fantastic - I can't imagine anything lovelier than wine, a cozy fire, blankets and friends together to make for a wonderful time.

    Enjoy - you've earned it!!

  5. Got rid of that gadget. Don't like it either.

You'd be great to go out and have a drink with. :) (Girls Night Out!)

  6. I must sdmit I've never noticed the gadget - I think when we all moved from JS it was the easiest was to follow someone's blog. Since it has changed it has become redundant, so I suppose you're right. It is just a way of showing how many people visit one's blog and then don't comment!

Have a wonderful weekend - sounds v divine!

  7. It was the only way to figure out who is reading, since we don't get stats anymore.

  8. Well I will be the odd woman out here. I like the followers because it introduces me to like minded bloggers. Plus if I am on your site it links me to your follower's blogs which I may not find otherwise. Usually your followers are interested in the same sorts of things you are and of course that is why I am on your site...because you are interesting.

  11. The widget changed awhile ago. They added the box around it and changed the process a little. I like it because it's a way for me to gauge whether people like what I'm posting.

  12. Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. Had a fabulous weekend!!!

OK sorry for confusion - when I was on line on Thursday the 'follower widget' was showing everyones followers all on one page. Those with hundreds of followers it was right down the side bar about 6 inces long. I thought it was a change but now I see is back to 'normal' level of intrusiveness. I do find it useful though too so haven't deleted, I just keep it down the bottom of the side bar out of the way.
