WTF?

OK speaking of conspiracies (I really was - see my post of earlier today here), I just got sent this poll on Facebook asking me to vote on whether the President of the United States of America should be allowed to speak to school children in a few days. Now I must say I’m way way past being surprised at some of the thinking currently emanating from the land of the free but this has got to be the pick of the bunch – the chatter on FB is that most respondents have said that ‘No’, it is not appropriate that President Obama speaks to the nations children but I’m not sure how they’d claim to know the results when the ‘poll’ is still open.

As far as I can ascertain the speech is going to be about persisting and staying in school – have I missed something? How can the president speaking directly to the nations children about their education be a bad thing? Is it really an evil plan to brain wash US children with baby eating liberal propaganda?

WTF?

*EDIT* I now see references to Hitler’s Youth rallies popping up around the place but the connection fails me.

  1. Oh Lou I am so stunned by what is going on "down there" in the US.
My husband has an aged half sister living in Texas and she sends me such crap about Obama. He is like Hitler and will have the seniors euthanized. He is trying to ruin the country. Blah, blah, blah.
The stupidity of some of these people is so profound that they should not even have the right to vote. Other countries are shaking their heads in disbelief.

  2. I am stunned too Lori - one of my American friends on Facebook has turned out to be one of 'them' and I can't believe she's serious with half the stuff she's comning out with. I'm thinking perhaps it's just an utter inability to think for herself and swallowing every stupid thing that's said.

  3. I am one of the ones that voted for the man. As you may or may not know I live in the south and quite proud of my lineage, the good the bad and the ugly. I get a kick out of saying 'I voted for the nigger'. To the person everyone I have said that to reacts with horror and becomes incensed that i would call them a racist. One guy threatened to throw me out of his house. I can only smile and asked why they are talking about race. It's baiting i know, but they go off on some rant about the illigals, and socialism, and goverment take over and Hitler and my eyes glaze and I drift away to a time when the people of Germany allowed hate and facism take away common respect for another point of view. I then wonder what is going to happen to this country that I love so very much. I cannot image the Bushites allowing parents to keep their 'chilren' from listening to his drunken ramblings.
It is too early here to think about stupid.

  5. It falls under the simple heading of: People Are Idiots.
They will say anything to get a voice heard even if it's nonsense, and it usually is.
Most of the past presidents have spoken to school children and these asshats think Obama is trying to indoctrinate them into a Socialist ideal with his lib'rul policies.
Thin k back to Reagan, who spoke to school children about his tax cutrs.
No one complained then, but they go crazy now.
    Asshats, the lot of them.

  6. I wish it was a simple case of the inmates taking over the asylum, but these inmates are being slickly choreographed by some malevolent maestros. My mother parrots all the garbage she hears on TV, is currently reading the oxymoronically-titled "Glenn Beck's Common Sense," and is living in fear of a Communist "takeover" of the government. I'd better put something in her Metamucil to calm her down....

  7. Lou, it boils down not to ideology, or scoicalism (many Americans equate that with communism), or what he will, or will not say. It is one simple sorry ass thing. These cretins cannot admit, or will not accept the fact that Obama is president. Why? Because he is half black. And right wing hate radio, and some legislators are egging them on, with glee. They are too fucking stupid, or lazy to figure out that they are being lead by the noses. And...they would of course never admit the real reason they are "up in arms" (almost literally). When they talk about "their America" they are talking about white America...unstated, but that's their America. And your friend is typical, it all lies under the surface...and it really is a cancerous situation.

  8. I guess I am trying to figure out why he should be treated any different from Bush (or others I am sure). If memory serves me correct wasn't Bush visiting a school on 9/11 "talking to children".

I just don't get it and I am afraid so very afraid of my "right" friends. There are a few I love dearly but they have drunk the kookaid (ok I spelled koolaid wrong but in this case I think its right - pun intended) and I fear for their thoughts.

  9. Scarey shit guys. My previously referred to FB mate is now ranting on my 'wall' because I challenged her on something she said. I've known this woman years but I am so revolted by what she's coming out with that I don't know how to deal with it. I know I could lead us to somewhere where we agree to disagree but I fear that something's been irreparably damaged - she's gone way past dumb and into frighteningly malevolent territory now. I just don't get the hate.

  10. Sorry about that Lou -- as I mentioned I have a great online friend and we have agreed to disagree but I can't believe your friend is going "postal" on you on FB of all places. If you need some backup look me up - my FB body guard rates are really good.

  11. Thanks Joanne. Things seemed to have settled a bit now, I am just refusing to be drawn in to a bitch fight about our conflicting ideology.

  12. I’d been going to say ‘It depends on whether any previous president has addressed schoolchildren in such a way’ – but I see I’ve already been answered in a comment. Given that, this is pretty disturbing, especially on top of some of the crap we’ve been hearing about euthanasia and the ‘death panels’. The whole thing is taking on a surreal quality.

  13. Yeah that's the scary part Simon. Every president in recent years has done it apparently. Reagan did go off on a rant about taxes though I've been told.
